I’m trying to type this blog post with a cat butt in my face. Devon has decided that after I’ve spent this morning doing all those little life admin jobs, it’s time I looked at him instead of the laptop. So, I best keep this short and sweet and get myself on that sofa for cuddles ASAP! My god I’m grateful to have my pets in my life.
So, January has been and gone after seeming to last forever. I swear that there are more than 24 hours in a day during that first month (and pay packet) of the year.
It was a bit of a weird month for me. My day job has changed slightly in that I’ve been given A LOT more responsibility and additional workload which mean I’m now doing the equivalent of 2 full time jobs. It’s proven to be extremely stressful and it’s taken a bit of a toll on my health and well-being. I’m struggling with sleep, I’m anxious all the time and Monday to Friday I feel absolutely awful. I’m completely drained and running on fumes. But, all I can do is hope that somehow it’ll improve… or that I’ll win the lottery. Definitely banking on the latter option there.
Aside from work, everything else in life is fine and dandy, but I’m so tired by the time I get home/the weekend comes, that I’ve basically not been doing anything too exciting! We have managed to get a few of those little niggly jobs around the house done though which feels like a massive win (you know the sort of thing: hanging photos, sorting out the cupboards etc) and I’ve made a good start on my 2020 goals which I’m really pleased about. I really feel like 2020 is going to be a year of growth for me and I’m so excited to see where I am by this time next year!
One exciting thing we did do in January was a trip to London to see Ghost Stories at the Ambassador Theatre. I won’t give you any spoilers (as they ask you not to) but it’s one of the best plays I’ve ever seen and I came out of there immediately wanting to go and see it again! It’s touring the UK at the moment so I recommend taking a look online to see when it’s near you – however, if you’re of a nervous disposition you might want to have a think about it first as people literally scream out loud during the show – it’s got a good few jump scares!
Being a bit on the skint side after Christmas, we haven’t actually done too much else. We’ve seen friends and family a couple of times but other than that we’ve made the most of our Netflix subscription and binge watched a few different series. If you’re looking for something to get your teeth in to, I recommend these which have had our attention this past month:
The Servant (Apple TV)
The Smiley Face Killers (Sky Crime)
Deadwater Fell (Channel 4)
White House Farm (ITV)
The Outsider (Sky Atlantic)
SAS Who Dares Wins (Channel 4)
I’ve also managed to read 4 out of my target 40 books for the year, so I’m ahead of schedule! I’m thinking I might write a monthly list on here of what I’ve been reading with little reviews alongside, so keep your eyes out in the coming days and I’ll get my January list up on here for anyone that is looking for recommendations.
One of my 2020 goals that I’m really pleased about achieving so far is swapping Poppy on to a raw food diet. She’s been on dry food for the entire time I’ve had her as I was always a little bit daunted by it, but now I’ve taken the plunge it’s the easiest thing ever and I can already see a difference in her! I have to admit, it can be a bit grim, and it works out a bit more expensive than her dry food, but it’s worth it if it’s going mean she is healthier and happier – you can’t put a price on that!
Another little life change I’m planning to make in the next few weeks is that I want to find out more about Terracycling as I want to try and decrease my carbon footprint as much as I can. I think it’ll take some organising to start off with but it will be totally worth it if I can reduce the amount of stuff that leaves my house and ends up in landfill. (If you want to find out more about it, take a look here).
So that was my January – fairly quiet but very much needed as I try to get to grips with my new workload. I’m looking forward to seeing what February brings; I have a few things planned including my first trip to a women’s circle and a couple of nights with friends. I’m planning to start a language course this month as well as really getting my teeth into yoga and meditation too – those are my main goals for the next few weeks.
Speaking of meditation, I decided to treat myself on payday to some new crystals for my collection. I had a look through Etsy and found someone selling a piece of rough peridot (good for bringing peace and harmony, attracting love, luck and wealth, and giving confidence). It was dispatched the next day and I was so excited to receive it, only to open the package and find it was teeny! I couldn’t stop laughing! Lets just hope it’s small and mighty, eh?
Happy February gang – I hope January was good to you but that this new month is even better!
