Introducing The APFT Book Club

Introducing The APFT Book Club

I’m a little bit excited about this today because I’m here to tell you all about something I’ve wanted to do for ages and – finally – I’ve got it kicked off. My online book club!

In a busy, busy world it’s so important to slow down and take some time out for your own peace of mind, and – for me – reading is one of the best ways I’ve found to do that. Whether it’s an afternoon with endless cups of tea on the sofa as you lose yourself in a story, or a quick 15-minutes grabbed deep in the pages of your latest read on your commute home, reading is a great way to both exercise your mind and relax it.

Now, one reason I’ve never got on with book clubs before is that life happens and so I can’t always dedicate the time needed to keep up with the rest of the group. Or, I’ve struggled with the book that has been chosen and so lose interest. So, I’ve taken that mindset and decided that my book club is going to be different.

Unlike most book clubs, this one isn’t going to tell you what to read each month – instead we will all be able to talk about what we’ve been reading as individuals, allowing everyone to share what they’ve been enjoying.

It’ll be a place to share opinions, have discussions, find new recommendations, venture into genres you maybe haven’t tried before, and to make new friends.

There will be a hashtag to use on social media – #APFTbookclub – so you can click that to see what people are sharing, and I’ll keep an eye out for posts featuring it and share it whenever I see it.

I want to build a little community. A happy, safe place for us all to discuss what we’ve been reading.

If you’d like to join just nip over to the page on Facebook (or search for A Penny For Them’s Book Club) and request to join. I’ll accept as soon as I see it! Feel free to invite any of your friends and family to join the group too – the more the merrier!

I don’t know how popular this is going to be but even if there’s only a handful of us, I feel like it has the potential to be a really good place for us to get together and have all the book chats!

I’ve got a queue of 7 books on my bedside table ready for me to delve in to and I was recently given a whole load more recommendations in response to a photo I posted on my Instagram, so I’m set for a good few months yet I think! I set myself a Goodreads Challenge to read 52 books in 2019 – one a week might have been a bit over-zealous – but I’m going to give it a good shot!

If you’re a fellow book-lover, come over and join the A Penny For Them Book Club over on Facebook and don’t forget to use the #APFTbookclub when sharing any bookish bits online!

I’ll still be posting monthly Recent Reads reviews here and talking about it in my monthly newsletter (which you can sign up to here) as well, so if you don’t have Facebook, don’t worry; you’re not going to miss out on my recommendations.

Back soon!

You’re welcome! Check back next month to see what I manage to read in February too!
