It’s official, December is here and with it, the right to get downright festive and fancy.
Party season is upon us and, whether meeting up with friends, family or hitting the town with your work colleagues, it’s the ideal time to treat yourself to a brand new outfit for the occasion.
When it comes to choosing what to wear for a Christmas do, there’s very little in the way of rules – it’s the time of year when glitz and glamour comes to the fore and the old adage of ‘less is more’ goes out of the window. More is more!
In my day job we don’t get a Christmas party (bah humbug) so our version will be a couple of drinks in the pub one evening, but for those of you with a social calendar that is bursting at the seams I’ve gathered together a few of my best picks in terms of Christmas party outfits under £30. It’s all about sticking to that budget when there’s more fun things (cocktails) to be spending your hard earned cash on!
Despite being without a reason to treat myself to something jazzy, I’ve still spent a fair amount of time browsing online at what I could have bought had I been in need, so, I’ve taken a look at some of my regular go-to clothing retailers’ websites and put together my top choices from their range of dresses, jumpsuits and playsuits, all for thirty quid or less…
This is one of my more recently discovered finds and, honestly, LOTD has fast become a firm favourite! They have a huge range of items, all well-priced, and every single item I’ve bought from them has been excellent quality. Another big plus point for them is that when they put something on sale, it’s usually for a really good price, rather than just being a few pound knocked off the usual retail value. I am OBSESSED with this website now and constantly find myself scouring their New In page to see what’s been coming in. I 100% recommend you go and take a look at them, but don’t blame me for any resultant damage to your bank balance please…! My pick of the bunch above has to be the Jacquard style playsuit, I love the print and the hints of gold are perfect for this time of year.
An oldie but a goodie, this High Street favourite always manages to nail the latest trends and at a pretty budget friendly level too. Another great thing about New Look is their ability to span the age ranges, making it possible to buy clothes for both my friends pre-teen aged daughter and my mum at the same time – there’s nothing worse than realising you’re a little too old for the stock range of a store! Whilst I love the glitzy red halter-neck mini-dress, I think my top pick of these has to be the black floral dress as it’s so adaptable and could easily transition from day to night, office to bar – perfect!
I’ve started shopping in Dorothy Perkins more in the past few years as I feel like their style manages to be grown-up whilst still retaining that element of fun and style, ideal for someone in their 30s who fails to be fashionable and needs a little extra help to look good on a night out (ie, me). My top pick out of this bunch has to be the striped jumpsuit, perfect for little-legged ladies like me, the vertical pattern elongates the body, and the ruffle at the top gives a little more shape and interest, whilst the belt helps to give some additional shape. This is the perfect sort of outfit that requires minimal jewellery to finish it off, and will work well even into the summer months for time spent on holiday or at family BBQ’s.
Another High Street favourite, River Island is always on the radar when it comes to party season with their accessories stealing the limelight for me – they know their stuff when it comes to adding the finishing touches to an outfit! The top pick for me out of this beautiful bunch is definitely the green dress – the colour, the detailing on the arms, and the statement shoulders make this absolutely perfect for a Christmas party; I could definitely see myself wearing this one and feeling a million dollars in it
I don’t really know why it took me so long to get involved with Simply Be, but now I’ve got my grubby little mitts on them, I’m not letting them go! They have such a brilliant range, sized from 8 to 38 and catering for a huge range of style types. I made my first order from them a few months ago and have my beady eyes poised for their January sale when I plan to get myself a few little bargains. My top pick out of the dresses above is the beautiful velvet swing dress – how beautiful is that teal colour?! I’m a big fan of a swing dress as it hides all the lumps and bumps I don’t want on display and those tiered ruffle sleeves are the absolute dream. I’m praying this one is still lurking above come January!
Obviously, style is a very personal thing, but I hope that I might have given you some inspo for your festive parties and what’s available out there for under £30. I’m not going to be buying anything new this season sadly, but if you treat yourself to anything from this list, drop me a line and let me know – I’ll be living my shopping dreams through you!
I love finding a good value outfit and there are so many great retailers out there, where do you plan on buying your Christmas outfit from?
