My Amsterdam To Do List

As you’ve probably gathered from the posts of this week (read those here, here, here and here), I absolutely loved Amsterdam but I’m all too aware that in the short space of time I was there, I only managed to scratch the surface of what the city has to offer and there is so much more to do.

With this in mind I’ve already started doing some research for a return trip, hopefully next year, and have put together a little list of things I want to do in Amsterdam when I’m next there.

Stay In A House Boat
This is right up there at the top of my list! Although my stay at ClinkNOORD was brilliant and I would recommend them to anyone, after cruising around the canals and seeing all the cute little house boats moored up, I really want to stay in one! There’s just something special about the idea of waking up and having my morning coffee looking out on to the water whilst I watch the world go by.

Anne Frank’s Haus
We didn’t have time to visit this previously, but I think it’s a Must Do for next time. Anne Frank’s story is one that is so well known by so many of us and I think it’s important to keep remembering the tragedy that befell her and so many other people. I’ll definitely pre-book my ticket as it’s such a popular attraction and I think I’ll book to attend during the earliest point of the day when it would hopefully be less busy.

Ripley’s Believe It Or Not
I went to the London branch of Believe It Or Not a few years ago and found it really fascinating so I definitely need to check out the Dutch version next time I’m there.

The Sex Museum
Another must for anyone visiting, I’ve heard good things about this museum and been told by so many people that I need to go there – it’s meant to be a bit of an eye-opener!

Brewery Tour
There are two different brewery tours you can go on in ‘Dam, either at the IJ Brewery or the Heineken Brewery. I think, personally, I would prefer to to go The IJ Brewery, purely because Heineken is such a big name that I would rather put money into the pocket of a smaller company.

De Poezenboot (The Cat Boat)
A floating cat sanctuary, this is something I really want to see. They’re always looking for donations too, so I could definitely pop a few Euros in to them at the same time.

Van Gogh Museum
As the name suggests, this is a museum dedicated to the works of Vincent Van Gogh. Although I’m not a massive art buff, I definitely want to get this ticked off, if only to say I’ve seen some of his work with my own eyes.

Walking Tour
What better way to learn about a new city than to embark on a walking tour? We did one when we were in Rome and it was so interesting and we learnt a lot more than we would have. This is a definite must.

I’m sure I’ll end up finding much more to do between now and whenever I finally make it back to ‘Dam (there’s so many tips online!), but recommendations are always welcome – if you have anywhere you think I should be adding to this list, let me know!
