It’s been such a long time since I sat down with my laptop; around 6 weeks in fact, and long enough that I couldn’t remember my password when I tried to turn it on! But, time is just an illusion etc etc and I’m here now, so that’s all that matters.
Life in the past month and a half has been full on – it was Year End for my company so my days have been stuffed full of work and by the time I’ve got home my brain has been a sleepy puddle and stringing together a sentence near-on impossible. We’ve also had 2 weddings (1 in Italy), a baby shower, Ben’s birthday and various other events and occasions which have taken up our weekends, so all in all, the opportunity to sit down and blog just hasn’t been there.
That said, I have plenty to share in the coming weeks and with our social calendar slowing down a little bit, I should get some more quality blogging time!
But, for now, being Friday, it’s time for me to talk about the 5 things that made me happy this week…
On Saturday it was Rachael’s baby shower and it was such a lovely few hours eating Afternoon Tea, playing games and laughing together. Rachael is one of the people I’m closest to in the world and I am so excited to meet her little man when he’s born – I never knew you could love someone before you’ve even met them, but I really do. Feeling him kick, seeing his hiccups, and in the past few days seeing him practising his breathing is incredible and I feel so privileged to have been so close to her through this pregnancy, getting to know him and seeing him grow. In a months time he will be here and I’ll have held him for the first time; I cannot wait!
Fun With Friends
Immediately after the BBQ I hopped on a train for some fun in the sun at our friends BBQ. I was completely stuffed full of cake and finger sandwiches so I skipped the food, but catching up with the gang that we went to Italy with last month was so much fun! A few games of Beer Pong, a few glasses of wine and good friends – is there any better way to spend a Saturday evening?
Despite the fact I can’t keep plants alive, I do like to have flowers around the house and I got myself these absolute beauties from the local supermarket. It’s not very often I splash out like this but I just couldn’t leave them behind; they’re stunning and they smell amazing!
Walking In The Rain
On Tuesday my commute home from work was in the rain. Initially I toyed with the idea of getting a cab, but then I thought “Sod it, I’ll walk” and I’m so glad I did! The air was warm and the rain was heavy so I walked through the door absolutely drenched but feeling good – taking a walk in the rain when you’re in no rush and have nowhere to be can sometimes be just the thing you need, and walking through the park in particular was lovely as I stopped and watched the raindrops falling onto the lake. Nature is such a great medicine for the soul! (It’s also good for the plants in my garden which are struggling to survive in this recent heatwave we’ve been having!)
This week I’ve done quite a bit of thinking and planning, getting together a little 5-year plan for Ben and I, as well as sorting various bits and pieces for decorating the house and revamping the garden. I always like to have a plan to work to, a rough idea of where things are going and how they’re going to get there, so having a guide in my mind has made me feel much more organised and grounded.
Happy Friday everyone and have a great week ahead!
