The new year is still very young and, if you’re anything like me, you’re planning for a big 2016. I’ve already touched briefly on the hopes, dreams and plans I have for this year and my belief that these things don’t just present themselves at your door – it’s my opinion that you get from life what you put into it, and if you want to create a better life, putting in the effort is vital.
Here are five simple ways to take your happiness to the next level in 2016. By making these adjustments now, you’ll be surprised at what a difference they can make to your world!
The quest for a better life has to start within and, one of the most obvious ways to do this, is by getting fit. This is something that features on the majority of people’s wish list for self-improvement (including mine) but I need to stop procrastinating and get on with it!
At the heart of any plan to get fit is healthy eating, so your diet obviously needs to be as good as possible, but it’s so important to take part in regular exercise. I’m finding it really hard to get started if I’m honest – I’m so tired all the time, but I know this fatigue will improve as soon as I get the blood pumping on a regular basis. One of the best ways to get fit – and the least time consuming – is to get yourself involved with a HIIT routine. It’s hard going but the results speak for themselves!
Don’t Forget Mental Health
When we’re talking about getting ourselves in peak condition, the focus is usually on our body, but don’t neglect what’s inside your head! Invest in your mental health, ensure you’re feeling the absolute best you can be and if you do feel like there may be something amiss, don’t be afraid to get help. Accepting the signs and acting to cure depression, anxiety or other mental health issues is a must and so, so important. When it comes to your list of priorities, try and put yourself first and make sure you’re healthy in every sense.
Think About Your Car
You’ll have read in a recent post that I’m in the process of getting rid of my car because I never use it these days (I walk everywhere and commute to work by train). It had been a wish of mine to buy an Audi TT before my 31st birthday but that’s not going to happen now – it would just sit on the driveway going to waste. But having this little epiphany about my car has made me realise how much money we plunge into our tin cans on wheels – whether it’s downgrading, upgrading or getting rid of it altogether, make sure your car isn’t a financial whirlpool for your cash! (If you are looking for an upgrade, be sure to shop around to find the best deal for you – dealerships like Currie Motors are great for this as you can really browse the market).
Start A Business
I’m a massive homebird and after having an almost-2-week holiday from work over Christmas I have to admit that being back in the office is painful. I miss my house. I miss my sofa. I miss my animals. It would be the absolute dream for me to be able to work from home and I’ve spent a fair amount of time gazing out the window trying to work out if I have any skills that would allow me to start my own business. The answer to this, for me, is sadly no, however, if you’ve got a special skill why not think about turning it into a little business on the side and see where you can go with it? You could end up the next Lord Sugar or Alyssa Smith and all from the comfort of your own home. Imagine earning money simply by indulging in your passion? Living. The. Dream.
I’m always banging on about this – live life. Really LIVE it. Open your eyes as you walk down the street and look around you. Spend time with the people you love. Laugh loud. Dance around the house. Sing. Smile. Love. We only get one shot at our time on this earth and we have to make it worthwhile. Say yes and take chances, and the world will show you amazing things. Last year I had lots of lovely weekend breaks, dinners out, movie nights at home, and smiled and laughed my way through 2015 more than I have in any other year. Life is so precious and such a gift and we need to really appreciate it while we have it.
What plans do you have to make 2016 amazing?
