Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a bit of a social media fiend and Twitter has got to be my favourite. It’s an ever-changing fast-paced timeline of news, information and viral shares and I’ve made so many friends through it – in fact I met two of my best friends on there (Haydy and Sian).
As one of the biggest social channels currently available, Twitter is a great asset for businesses and brands as it provides them the opportunity to really connect with their existing and potential customers. However, I think it’s important that there’s a good balance between promoting their products and really engaging with their followers – if a brand I’m following does nothing but push items they want to sell I soon lose interest.
So today I wanted to share with you 5 of the brands and businesses I think are really getting social media right. Chatting with their followers, raising a smile and not trying too hard to bring about a sale – it’s good to see the human side of a company and these guys are nailing it, getting social media right!
I’ve written about Vinyl Clocks a few times in the past and they continue to be one of my favourite brands to follow. Not only have they got a brilliant product, but their social media action is spot on. You can really get a sense of the person at the other end of the keyboard and their sense of humour too. Customer engagement, good fun and the least pushy sales strategy I’ve ever seen – it’s works for me!
Alyssa Smith Jewellery – @AlyssaJewellery
Starting her business from the floor of her bedroom, this girl has climbed the ladder and is now an absolute superstar in the world of entrepreneurs. She speaks to Parliament, she presents awards ceremonies and now she’s got a regular slot on TV (check out Money Pit on Dave every Thursday), yet she still finds the time to keep her social media top notch and really connect with her followers. In recent weeks she’s taken on a lady to help her with her social media (who is also really good!) but Alyssa hasn’t stepped back from it completely and still takes the time to share her own self, her life and what she gets up to with us all.
Innocent – @Innocent
This brand have got to be the Kings and Queens of Twitter. Their tweets are what I would class as social media perfection – topical, funny and so far from pushy sales they’re close to being polar opposite. A winning combination every single time.
Waterstones Oxford Street – @WstonesOxfordSt
Let’s be honest, if you’re not a book lover it would be fair to assume you’d find the Twitter account of a book shop boring, right? Well, Waterstones Oxford Street will definitely change your opinion. Witty, topical and clever, their tweets always make me laugh and I can’t be the only one, because they’re shared far and wide!
The Dolphin Pub – @The_Dolphin_Pub
This one is probably an account that comes with an 18+ rating, not just because of the fact it’s for a pub, but because the language and subject matter can be a little adult sometimes, but it’s a great account that has a strong following – 26.2k at the time of writing; not bad for a little pub in Hackney! I love the whole concept of this, written as if it’s by the staff behind the bar, it never fails to make me laugh!
It’s so refreshing to find brands that are willing to step back from the “Promote! Sell! Make Money!” side of things and really inject some humanity into their timelines. This sort of marketing will always make a brand or business stick in my mind and, as a result, make me more likely to purchase from them in the future.
Keep doing what you’re doing guys, I love it and I know lots of other people do too!
Do you follow any brands with a brilliant approach to social media?
Penny xx
