I don’t want to worry anybody but just a little heads up… Christmas is just over 2 months away. TWO MONTHS!!
As yet I haven’t bought a single present, which is a bit of a concern as I only have 2 pay packets between then and now and I like to spend a fair while picking out the ideal gift for each person. I try to avoid buying everyday items you can find on the High Street and give presents that are a little more special and tailored to the recipient, but this isn’t always easy – especially as I’m now at an age where the people I care about all have their own lives and their own jobs and can buy whatever they want whenever they want!
However, I have put something some of my tips for buying presents for the person who have everything…
Make It Quirky
As much as we all love to have toasty feet during the colder months of the year, getting a gift of socks isn’t the most thrilling thing in the world (unless you absolutely love socks, in which case I imagine it’s pretty awesome). Likewise, off-the-shelf-could-buy-it-anywhere presents are so common that sometimes it’s nice to step away from the everyday and get something a little more quirky or personalised. Whether it’s something to do with a loved ones hobby, or a nod to something that happened in the past, getting something a little out of the ordinary will score you some serious brownie points. It’s worth spending some time online researching different ideas and taking inspiration from what you see – these unique gift ideas from Cuckooland are just brilliant!
Get Them An Experience
I know I’m always harping on about how memories are better than material things, but it’s something I truly believe. Why buy a gift that will gather dust on a shelf or live it’s life hidden in a cupboard when instead you could give the gift of an experience and create memories that will last a lifetime?! There are so many different kinds of experience day too – spa retreats, dinner in fancy restaurants, Zorbing, a day as a Zoo Keeper, or a day out on a race track; it’s worth taking a look around for the perfect present.
Tick Off A Bucket List Item
I know not everyone has an actual Bucket List but most people do have things they would like to do at some point in their life. Try and find out what some of their wishes are and then go about seeing if you can make any of those dreams come true. I can guarantee it’ll be one of the greatest gifts they ever receive!
The DIY Gift (especially useful if, like me, you’re skint)
Sure, any gift received is a lovely thing, but there is something a little special about a gift that has taken time and effort to make. Whether it’s using your artistic talent to create a picture, making a collage of photographs, putting together a mix CD, or baking something special; the extra effort, love and care that has gone into creating the present will definitely make this one-of-a-kind present incredibly meaningful.
I’m going to be starting my Christmas shopping next week, but in the meantime, if you’ve got any other brilliant gift ideas please feel free to share them in the comments below – all help is gratefully received at this time of year! Panic stations!
