If we go back in time 10-years, you’ll find a (much) younger looking version of me “getting dressed up to the nines” (as my mum would say) and partying my way around town; usually starting in a pub, moving onto a bar and ending the night in a club. Going out was pretty much what I lived for and I could be found socialising most Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, plus a few days in between if I could get away with it.
But life moves on and here I am, at 28 years of age, and although my social life is still busy, it’s not very often I go clubbing anymore. When I go out now, I’m more likely to be found in a pub, although when I’m out with the girls we’ll usually frequent bars instead, but nightclubs are more or less off-limits to me now. I feel like I’ve grown out of them somehow?
On the rare occasions these days that I do find myself in a club, I find myself feeling a little… well… old. There, I said it. I feel old. I can’t help it though, I look around and everybody looks so young! I also find myself wondering what some of the music is and even – dare I say it – wondering why it’s so loud! I can’t talk to my friends when the music is turned up so high, TURN IT DOWN MR DJ, we want to discuss wallpapers, homewares, clothes and which member of One Direction feels the least seedy to fancy!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not ready for my slippers and bed-pan just yet; I still love a good boogie when I do go to a club but I can no longer last until the lights gets switched on at 5am like I used to.
As I said, these days, I’m more than happy to spend the evening in a pub where they have some good music in the background, I can have a chit-chat and then once the drinks have been flowing and people are less likely to judge me, I’ll make the transition to the dancefloor and throw some shapes. I’ve got the moves like Jagger I’ll have you know.
for me, a night in is quite often as welcome as a night out. Gathering all the girls together, getting cosied up on the sofa in comfy clothes, a glass in hand, nibbles on the table and the opportunity to chat and laugh as much as you want to! I’m also partial to a bit of a kitchen rave, so crank the music up and I’ll have a jig in front of the fridge/freezer, no bother!
I have to admit, I’m less concerned that I may be becoming a boring old biddy now I’ve seen this survey that Ladbrokes Bingo carried out. They spoke to 2000 women in the UK and it found that almost 70% of us girls prefer a night in to a night out – I’m not alone!
To be fair though, the survey doesn’t say how old these women were, they might have been 70+ but I don’t care, they agree with me and that’s all I’m interested in…
What do you reckon? Am I a total party pooper or does a night in with fizz and nibbles sound like a little slice of heaven to you too?
