“Happiness is finding two olives in your martini
when you’re hungry”
~ Johnny Carson ~
I include this quote not only because it made me smile, but because it rang kind of true with me. A guaranteed way to light up my eyes and put a grin on my face is to serve me a bowl of olives. In fact, quite often, when I go out for dinner, being served the olives is almost more enjoyable to me than the main meal! (I’m a cheap date)
I honestly, truly, really, REALLY love olives. I could quite happily stand at the fridge with the door open, eating olives straight out of the jar.
In fact, I have done that.
More than once.
I know, I’m a classy sorta lady.
So, when I got an email asking if I would like to review some Oloves olive snack packs, I was so excited I might as well have pulled my t-shirt over my head and run around the room like a footballer after scoring a particularly spectacular goal. I was chuffed.
Soon enough, the package popped through the door and I tore it open. Annoyingly, I had to work the following two evenings, so the olives sat at home waiting for a time that K and I could sit down together and try them. I wanted him to try them as well because everyone’s tastebuds are different and I wanted to get his opinion too, in the name of fairness and carrying out a good review.
Thursday ticked round, he got home from work and went straight out into the garden to water the plants. By the time he’d got back indoors, there were three half eaten packets of olives on the side.
I just couldn’t wait though and, technically, he was home and therefore I had waited for him.
I was sent three flavours to try out – Lemony Lover (with lemon and garlic), Tasty Mediterranean (with basil and garlic) and Hot Chilli Mama (with Habanero chillies).
All three flavours were really nice; you could really taste the lemon coming through in the Lemony Lover’s one and the garlic was very subtle in the background, the basil ones were nice although I’m not sure I would have been able to guess the flavour if I hadn’t known (although my palate isn’t exactly refined) and the chilli ones had a definite kick to them. I can’t really handle spice so half a packet was enough for me, but K loved them.
Another great thing about these is that they’ve already been pitted, so there’s none of that awkward trying-to-chew-them-and-spit-the-pips-out, which means these little packs are perfect for snacking on whether you’re on the go or trying to maintain your professional persona in the office.
They’re also only 50 calories per pack and naturally low in saturated fat, which means you can enjoy them without feeling guilty, plus they’re also a great snacking option for those of us with food allergies as they’re free from wheat, gluten, dairy and nuts.
If you fancy giving the Oloves range a try yourself, you can buy them in Wetherspoons, Shell Service Stations, Palmer & Harvey, Holland & Barrett, and Superquinn Stores. I definitely recommend them and will be making sure I treat myself to some more in the future!
