Wedding season is well and truly upon us and my social media feeds are full of people dressed in their finest, sipping champagne and celebrating the love of people they hold dear to them. It’s all a little bit heart-warming to tell you the truth – you’ve got to love love, haven’t you?
We recently got back from what will go down in history as one of the best holidays of my life. No, the best holiday of my life (to date). Granted, I have a whole lifetime of holidays still to come, but this one was truly special and for so many different reasons.
I can’t quite believe I’m writing this! I’m engaged! Even as a little girl, being Miss Fiercely Independent, I always told everybody that I wasn’t going to get married. I didn’t see it being part of my story and I didn’t even consider it happening to me until I got together with Ben, yet here I am, typing this with the most perfect, beautiful ring glistening on my left hand and I can’t quite believe it! Here’s our engagement story…
If you’ve been on social media today, you may well have seen various references to the fact that today is National Selfie Day. (Yes, there is a day for seemingly everything!) Brands are using it to promote their wares, influencers are sharing perfectly poised images of themselves, and the rest of us regular Joe’s and Josephine’s are warily uploading photos of our faces and hoping people don’t think we’re being narcissistic (or, alternatively, not uploading a picture for that exact reason).
But, is embracing your own image and uploading a picture of your face to the internet really narcissistic, or do we just find ourselves in a world where self-love is so frowned upon that any sign of appreciation of ourselves is chalked up as a negative?
This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while now, and today seems like the perfect time to talk about it.
(Prepare yourself, it’s a long one today as I need to catch up on 3 weeks of happenings!)
Can you believe it? We’re into the sixth month of the year already! It seems like only yesterday I was listening to the gentle tones of Auld Lang Syne and kicking 2017 out the back door to let 2018 in the front, and yet here we are, just a few short weeks from being officially halfway through the year.
