With the beginning of November comes the beginning of Christmas planning in my mind. I start spending my free time trawling the internet looking for the ideal presents for loved ones and tightening my belt financially to make it manageable.
In past years I’ve run a Twitter Secret Santa, getting dozens of people on board and allocating them all a person to buy a present for within a set budget. I started doing this as it felt like a good way to spread Christmas cheer and for people to discover new friends online, however, this year I’ve made the decision not to host it again.
The reason for this is that, basically, it all became a bit too much. The admin side of it was pretty full-on, which was fine, however, there were sadly a few occurrences of people being allocated their designated recipient but not following through and sending a gift. I would then be left with disappointed people messaging me saying they felt let down, and I would find myself carrying a feeling of guilt despite it not being my fault.
I didn’t want anyone to feel bad about something I created with only positive intentions in mind, nor for them to be out of pocket having bought a gift and not receiving one back, but I couldn’t work out a way to resolve this as other peoples’ actions are obviously out of my control, so instead, I decided it was no-go this year. (But not ruled out for 2018, I just need to figure out a good way of working it to avoid people being let down).
Despite deciding to knock Twitter Secret Santa on the head, I didn’t want to let Christmas slip by without doing anything at all, so decided instead to do something that I would have full responsibility for; something that I could monitor and run myself without the fear of something going wrong that is out of my control. No worrying about people being upset!
After pondering a few different things I could do, I settled on the idea of creating a bumper bundle of Christmas goodies for somebody to win, hopefully making their day when they receive it!
These are items I’ve picked up over the past few weeks, all chosen because they’re something I would like and felt summed up Christmas, so hopefully you’ll like them too!

The boring bit: This competition is open to those in the UK only (sorry). The winner will be chosen on Friday 8th December and will have 48 hours to claim, otherwise another winner will be picked.
Here’s to the start of Christmas 2017 – I’m excited!
