7 Winter Warmer Coffee Cocktails

There’s no denying it, autumn is well and truly here. The mornings are covered with a layer of dew, the leaves are falling from the trees, and I am absolutely bloomin’ freezing.

And with the beginning of October, so begins a couple of months of social events and get-togethers, with Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas and New Years Eve all within the space of two months of each other.

During the summer, when we have get-togethers with our friends, as well as buckets full of chilled beer and cold, fruity Pimms, there’s usually a little dabble in terms of cocktails, with us mixing up a storm in the kitchen and usually regretting the self-served measures the next morning.

But, with the exit of long, balmy nights and hot, sunny days, you don’t have to say goodbye to drinking something a little fancy, but if a tropical tasting treat seems a little off-kilter for you when you’re wrapped up in wooly scarves and hats, then perhaps I can offer you some assistance today in the form of more cosy, warming, wintery type cocktails, all with a hit of coffee in the form of Tia Maria.

Espresso Martini (3)

Espresso Martini
How could I leave this one out? The Espresso Martini is perhaps the most popular of the coffee-based cocktails and is still going strong some 30 years after it’s creation.
What You Need:
– 25ml Tia Maria
– 25ml vodka
– Double or single shot of espresso
– 5ml of sugar syrup
What You Do:
Fill a martini glass with ice and set it aside to chill. Pour the Tia Maria, vodka and espresso into a cocktail shaker and add ice. Shake well, remove the ice from the martini glass, and pour your cocktail in (using a strainer sieve). Finish with three coffee beans placed delicately on the top.

Tia Mint Americano
If you’re looking for something with a bit of zest, this could be the one for you!
What You Need:
– 25ml Tia Maria
– Double shot of espresso
– 10ml sugar syrup
– 6 mint leaves
– 30ml sparkling water
What You Do:
Pop the mint, Tia Maria, espresso and sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker and shake for around 40 seconds. Pour the contents (using a strainer sieve) into a glass of cubed ice, stir and top up with sparkling water. Use the mint to garnish.

Boozy Coffee Coke Float
A childhood favourite with a grown-up twist, this one’s a must for those nights when the diet is on hold!
What You Need:
– 14ml Tia Maria
– Coca Cola
– 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
What You Do:
Add your scoop of vanilla ice cream to a glass, pour in the Tia Maria and fill up with Coca Cola. Seconds to make, and so worth it!

Flat White Russian (2)

Flat White Russian
Another classic, this one is a real crowd pleaser!
What You Need:
– 25ml Tia Maria
– 25ml rum
– Shot of espresso
– 5ml demerara sugar
– Milk
What You Do:
Fill your glass with ice cubes, pour in all your ingredients and stir thoroughly to make sure the sugar has melted and everything else has combined. If you’re feeling particularly decadent you could add a few shavings of chocolate to the top as well.

Tia’s Irish Coffee
A classic and definitely ticks all the boxes when it comes to winter warmers!
What You Need:
– Black coffee
– Tia Maria
– Whisky
– Whipped cream
What You Do:
Make yourself a cup of coffee in your usual style, adding half a shot of Tia Maria and half a shot of whisky. Stir well and add plenty of squirty cream to the top!

Tia Ginger
The taste of ginger just screams of Christmas, and this cocktail with its little twist of spice is perfect for the festive season.
What You Need:
– 35ml of Tia Maria
– Ginger Beer
– Half a fresh lime
What You Do:
Pour the Tia Maria and ginger beer into a glass filled with ice, squeeze in the juice of half a fresh lime and garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Tia and Tonic Lifestyle 1

Tia and Tonic
Looking for something a little simpler or a drink to let Tia Maria shine in its own right? Then look no further, I’ve got you covered!
What You Need:
– Tia Maria
– Tonic Water
What You Do:
Pop a shot of Tia Maria into a glass filled with ice, top up with tonic water and enjoy!

I’m a big fan of a cocktail when I go out and tend to order the same thing most of the time (an Old Fashioned) but I think now the colder months have arrived, I’ll definitely be mixing up a few of these beauties at home – particularly the Boozy Coffee Coke Float; that’s got my name written all over it!

Why not grab yourself a bottle of Tia Maria and give some of these a go?
