Now, I don’t know about you, but quite often I’ll see a trend I love the look of but just don’t think I’d be able to pull off myself, no matter how hard I try. One of these is underwear for outerwear.
In case you haven’t heard of this before, it’s pretty much as it sounds – wearing underwear as an integral part of your outfit. So many celebs seem to have been rocking this look and although it looks amazing on them, I never thought it would be something I’d be able to work into an outfit; it seemed too edgy and ‘out there’ for a dullard like me.
However, when Marks and Spencer contacted me and challenged me to put together an outfit using a piece from their underwear range, I thought it was as good a reason as ever to push me out of my comfort zone and into trying a new look.
M&S have some cracking pieces on their website, and I managed to narrow it down to a small(ish) list but still couldn’t decide, so I told their PR team to just pick something and send it to me – I couldn’t be happier with what they chose!
I love the print because it’s so bold and eye-catching yet feminine as well, plus the lace gives it that little something extra. It’s also got a small open detailing underneath the rear clasp, which I love, and the material is strong enough to suck in all the parts of me that are a little too loose!
Along with the floral body, M&S also very kindly sent me a gorgeous statement necklace from Per Una. It has a real Aztec feel to the design and the two items go really well together, despite being fairly different in their styles.
How simple is this?! I can totally imagine going out for a nice meal wearing this, although the high-waisted skirt is a bit tight so I’d probably have to stick to salad and still water!
I definitely think this challenge has taught me to be a little bit more daring with what I wear and to stop being scared of trying anything different. Just because I’m not the perfect size and shape, it doesn’t mean I can’t rock a trend!
